You may be looking for a treatment that provides you with a better and fuller look to your eyebrows and that looks more stylish and less unruly Eyebrow lamination may be the perfect solution for you.
Although this is a relatively new treatment it is growing in popularity due to the fact that it is relatively inexpensive compared to other alternatives. Also known as an “eyebrow perm” it produces a smooth and shiny effect to the brow that is more defined. It may be that your eyebrows tend to be “unruly” or your eyebrows are thinning. It is a semi-permanent procedure and will provide a stylish look to your eyebrows however the treatment will need to be repeated in the future to ensure that the results remain consistent with your intended outcome. There may be some risks to be considered but we will highlight these accordingly as assess the procedure.
It is as mentioned sometimes referred too as an eyebrow perm so effectively it is perming of the eyebrow(s) which will provide a fuller and even look to the brow the treatment will also mean that when removing make up the brow will not be subject to returning to their previous state.
The treatment will involve the following steps:
- The Practitioner applies a cream to the brow which assists in lifting the hair in an upwards direction.
- Secondly the brow is brushed, again in an upwards direction which provides more uniformity to the brow provides the intended shape to the brow.
- A neutraliser is then applied – this will seal the eyebrows into place and shape.
- The last step is a nourishing oil to help prevent skin irritation and hair dryness that may be caused by the chemicals used during the perm.
- As chemicals are used for this procedure a nourishing oil is applied this is to avoid skin irritation and dryness that may be caused.
- You may wish to have minor additional treatments to this to gain optimum results and they can include tinting (colouring), waxing and or having tweezers used to “perfect” an arch.
- The treatment only takes approximately one hour (possibly less) to complete.
- After care is simple, it is recommended that you continue using a nourishing oil every evening / night to prevent dryness.
What are the benefits of Eyebrow lamination?
You may have issues or concerns regarding your eyebrows and these can include natural and man-made problems, but the first benefit is that the treatment is.
- Non-invasive. There are treatments that involve needles and other applications that are invasive and involve a healing process. This does not apply.
Secondly it can address the following.
- Ageing causing thinning hair, unruly brow (hair going in different directions), uneven brow caused by too much or too little plucking and over waxing. Your eyebrows may just be naturally uneven or show poor shape.
This treatment will make your eyebrows appear full and thick and with hair being brushed upwards it gives the appearance of new growth, ultimately it gives your eyebrows a better shape and look.
Side effects and possible risks associated with brow lamination.
As with all procedures there may be some potential risks (these are minimal) and your practitioner will explain the procedure and risks / side effects during the consultation process. The side effects compared to surgical or invasive treatments are less likely to have a major impact and they will or should only be caused where a reaction to the chemicals is indicated and skin irritation is the result. What might you experience? Swelling, redness, itchiness and possible peeling and bumps – these will usually only affect the eyebrow but in a few instances may extend to the eyelid. Your practitioner will advise the client what to do should they experience any of the above.
During your consultation, the practitioner will also advise that this procedure is not recommended if your medical history indicates that you suffer with a sensitive skin. You suffer with eczema or rosacea or if you have a history of contact dermatitis.
If you are familiar with perm solution and how this can affect the hair you will appreciate that eyebrow lamination can lead to dryness and damage to the hair so when booking further treatments, ensure that you do not book too soon after the original treatment – 6 weeks is usually a safe period between treatments.
There is one other more potential risk and that is if chemicals run into the eye during the procedure. Of course, your practitioner should ensure every measure is taken to minimise this risk, but they will also know the necessary response should this occur.
Brow lamination – does the procedure require further treatments and how often are they?
Perhaps the greatest downside to eyebrow lamination is that the effects are only temporary. To maintain your new brows, you will need to repeat the process every couple of months, similar to a traditional perm.
The procedure is not permanent and will require further treatments. Your initial treatment may last 6 to 8 weeks and then you will need to have further treatment to maintain the intended outcome and look. Also, between these treatments just as in your initial treatment the practitioner applied a nourishing oil make sure that you apply a nourishing oil (ask your practitioner during the consultation of the best and most suitable) every night this will ensure that no dryness occurs, and the hair does not become damaged.
How much does brow lamination cost?
What might I expect to pay for Eyebrow Lamination?
As the procedure requires fewer materials and less time to perform (compared to other treatment procedures) it is usually mush less expensive. Costs may vary from salon to salon, but the full cost can be obtained by contacting your selected provider.
You can also complete a search of different providers and costs which may give some guidance as to what to expect.
Looking for a suitable salon
For a brow lamination, consider reaching out to an aesthetician or professional makeup artist. Ask prospective providers if they have experience with this procedure specifically.
You may already know of a salon you wish to try a or possibly you are already a client. If not, you can go online and look for a suitable salon that offers this treatment. You should always be certain that your salon has qualified practitioners and are fully acquainted with the procedure. You may also be familiar with a qualified make-up artist that offers this treatment and might select this option instead.
When looking you should also confirm accreditation with an appropriate body correct licensing and costs. You may wish to visit the salon and request to look at before and after photos that will assist in choosing your desired look.
What are the other options if I choose not to have eyebrow lamination?
Of course, there are other options available to you and these will be covered in further BLOGS in the near future however here is a brief list of the alternatives and what to expect.
Permanent tattooing
You may want to consider this if you are looking for a more permanent colour (microblading and microshading will not achieve the same results) however this can be slightly more painful so only consider this if you have a higher pain tolerance! Although the treatment will or may last for several years the colour will eventually begin to fade. Also, you should be aware that additional side effects may be incurred as the needles penetrate deeper in the skin.
Microshading
This procedure may be longer lasting and although similar to microblading it is not as long lasting as the results will only last a few months. The procedure involves the insertion of pigments by means of small dots placed throughout the eyebrow.
This is a similar technique to tattooing whereby needles are used to make small cuts into the skin placed beneath the eyebrows and then pigments are inserted into the cuts which results in a fuller look to the eyebrow. This treatment will last between 12 to 18 months and so is more effective in maintaining the desired outcome without having more frequent follow up treatments.
Tinting
Tinting is what it suggests where a practitioner applies a tinted colour to the eyebrow, and this will provide the client with a fuller and thicker look to the eyebrow. Less invasive so no side effects should be experienced (unless the product contains a substance that you might be allergic too – this should be discussed before the procedure). The results are limited to only several weeks before you need to repeat the treatment.
Pencilling
This may be considered one of the traditional methods as an eyebrow pencil has been used for decades! Using a coloured eye pencil (in some instances a powder may be the preferred option) and use light strokes until the desired outcome is achieved. It is recommended that the client selects a pencil matching their own natural eyebrow colour.
Brow gel
These can be selected choice particularly if the client considers they suffer with unruly eyebrows. These waterproof eye gels come with an applicator and it should be applied in an upwards and outwards motion to achieve the desired outcome.
**In both last options they last only until they are washed off so will require constant applications to maintain the desired look.
Concluding Notes
After considering all the options you reach the conclusion that eyebrow lamination is the best procedure as it provides a longer lasting, less invasive option. Also, it is less expensive, but it will deliver the desired look and outcome.
As mentioned, your options can be discussed during your consultation process and any concerns and questions you have can be discussed. If you are concerned about existing skin conditions (or side effects) you can also ask your dermatologist (if you currently consulting one) any questions relating to these treatments.
